The Downeaster train takes you from Boston to Portland in less than an hour, so you can experience the city in a single visit. Add the coastal suburbs and Portland offers a great mix of beautiful scenery, good food and great entertainment.
Great Diamond Island in Casco Bay is one of the most picturesque islands in Maine, and the ferry takes you to Peaks Island, where you will surely be immersed in a relaxed lifestyle. Spring Point Ledge Lighthouse is located just a few miles from downtown and offers breathtaking views of Portland and CasCo Bay during your visit. It is not only the only hostel in Portland, but according to our source at Visit, it is the "only hostel in the entire state of Maine."

We would have only spent a total of 18 hours in Portland, Maine, but we were excited to experience the city and were definitely full of energy after the experience. Portland Head Lighthouse is just a short drive from our hotel and about 10 minutes drive from L L L Lighthouse.
We knew we wanted to visit the largest city in Maine, but we would spend a week in Portland, Maine, and not just one day in the city. Although we were only in Portland Maine for 3 days, we strongly recommend staying in Old Port, closer to downtown, as it makes strolling much easier.
